Ashanti Shequoiya Doug, often known as Ashanti, was born on the 13th of October, 1980 at Glen Cove New York United States. Ashanti is an United States singer, songwriter and actress. Ashanti's talent was first discovered when she was a teenager. She was signed to Murder Inc. Records, in 2002. She was featured on the Fat Joe's What's Luv? song that was released the following year. Ja Rule's single, Always on Time as well as Fat Joe's What's luv? She became the first female artist to hold the first and second spots within the Billboard Hot 100 list in the United States with Foolish at number one and What's Luv? She became the first female artist holding both the highest two positions on the Billboard Hot 100 in America and with the number one spot held by Foolish. one and What's Love? Let's celebrate the special occasion by celebrating it together. Ashanti Shequoiya, more popularly called Ashanti, is a New Yorker born in Glen Cove, New York on the 13th of 13 October, 1980. Tina Douglas, her mother was a former dance instructor. Ken-Kaide Douglas is her father. Kenashia Shia is her youngest sister. Douglas chose her name in honor of the Ashanti Empire in Ghana where women had power as well as influence. Douglas was hoping for Ashanti to follow the same model. James her grandfather was a civil rights leader who was a close friend of Martin Luther King Jr. during the 1960s. Ashanti's mom discovered Ashanti's talent following her performance of Mary J. Blige Reminisce. Ashanti made an appearance in Spike Lee's Malcolm X (1992) as well as Ted Demme's Who's the Man? as a young extra. Ashanti also appeared in several music videos, including K.R.S. - Act One's "MC's are like they don't understand" along with Eight-Off Ghetto girl. After being approached by several record labels including Bad Boy and Jive Ashanti had a difficult time gaining success as a vocalist. Despite not receiving any big breaks however, she continued to play around New York. Ashanti first appeared on the track of Big Pun's We Roll as a backing vocalist. Also, she appeared in the song by Fat Joe "What's Luv?" Ja Rule's always on time and Fat Jojo's What is Luv? also featured her. The song sample she uses in her first single Foolish was taken from DeBarge's with Me which was released in 1983. Ashanti made her debut album, which was titled "Ashanti" in 2002 under Irv Getti's Murder Inc. Record Label. The Declaration is Ashanti's fourth studio album. The release was made on Murder Inc. on the 3rd of June, 2008. Hey Baby was released for the radio and online on the 16th of October, 2009. Also, she was in the movies Christmas in the City, Army Wives and Latasha Monteclair. Her song Rock wit U was sampled by British artist Aitch to accompany his track Baby on March 10 2022.
